چکیده
Ceramide-monomethylaminoethylphosphonate has been isolated for the first time from the lipids of Tetrahymena pyriformis W and characterized on the basis of its chromatographic mobility, chemical analysis, and infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance properties.

STUDIES OF MEMBRANE FORMATION IN TETRAHYMENA PYRIFORMIS II . Isolation and Lipid Analysis of Cell Fractions
A method has been devised to fractionate cells of Tetrahymena pyriformis, yielding pure or highly enriched preparations of cilia, cilia-associated soluble material, pellicles, mitochondria, microsomes, and postmicrosomal supernatant . The method prevents the destructive action of lipolytic enzymes commonly associated with this organism . Analysis of the membrane lipids of these fractions reveal...

An alternative in vitro approach to drug screening has been the use of human cell cultures for antiviral agents and microbial cell cultures for the assessment of the carcinogenic potential of selected compounds. A number of protozoan species have been also used as drug screens for anti-protozoal agents. The ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis species has been widely utilised as a dru...

متن کاملInfection of Tetrahymena pyriformis by Legionella longbeachae and other Legionella species found in potting mixes.
All Legionella longbeachae strains, both serogroups of L. bozemanii, and three strains of L. anisa reproducibly infected washed Tetrahymena pyriformis at 30 degrees C. L. pneumophila serogroup 1 strains infected T. pyriformis less reproducibly than did L. longbeachae. Low-level concentrations of nutrients in cocultures inhibited infection. Four L. micdadei strains and L. anisa ATCC 35292 failed...
متن کاملSTUDIES OF MEMBRANE FORMATION IN TETRAHYMENA PYRIFORMIS III. Lipid Incorporation into Various Cellular Membranes of Logarithmic Phase Cultures
When 114C-palmitic acid is used to pulse label logarithmic cultures of Tetrahymena pyriformis, radioactivity appears in lipids of the various membrane types at vastly differing rates . The microsomes and postmicrosomal supernatant attain a high specific radioactivity within 1 min, while the membranes enveloping the cilia require several hours to reach the microsomal level. A similar pattern is ...
